On September 5, 1960, the Palazzo dello Sport, located in the EUR district of Rome, hosted a historic showdown between Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. (later Mohammad Ali) and the Polish boxer Zbigniew Pietrzykowski heavyweight champion, as part of the 1960 Rome Olympics<\/span><\/p>\n

The arena was designed in 1956 by Italian architects Marcello Piacentini<\/a> and Pier Luigi Nervi<\/a>, and is considered one of the masterpieces of Italian Rationalist architecture.
