Not every product launched by the company managed to earn users\u2019 trust\u2014even among Apple\u2019s most loyal fans.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"631\" data-end=\"676\"><span style=\"font-family: cairo;font-size: 14pt\">Unforgettable Failures in Apple\u2019s History<\/span><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"677\" data-end=\"980\"><span style=\"font-family: cairo;font-size: 14pt\">One of the most notable examples is <strong data-start=\"713\" data-end=\"723\">Newton<\/strong>, Apple\u2019s personal digital assistant released in the 1990s. Although it was ahead of its time conceptually, weak handwriting recognition technology and a high price tag led to its commercial failure. Eventually, Steve Jobs decided to discontinue the device.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"982\" data-end=\"1301\"><span style=\"font-family: cairo;font-size: 14pt\">However, Newton left behind an important technological legacy. It contributed to the development of <strong data-start=\"1082\" data-end=\"1100\">ARM processors<\/strong>, which later became the foundation for today\u2019s <strong data-start=\"1148\" data-end=\"1185\">Apple A-series and M-series chips<\/strong>, and helped pave the way for modern app interfaces and touch-based gestures, according to a report by <em data-start=\"1288\" data-end=\"1300\">PhoneArena<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1303\" data-end=\"1334\"><span style=\"font-family: cairo;font-size: 14pt\">Post-iPhone Success Stories<\/span><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1335\" data-end=\"1530\"><span style=\"font-family: cairo;font-size: 14pt\">Following the iPhone\u2019s success, Apple continued to dominate the market with products such as the <strong data-start=\"1432\" data-end=\"1440\">iPad<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1442\" data-end=\"1457\">Apple Watch<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1459\" data-end=\"1470\">AirPods<\/strong>, and <strong data-start=\"1476\" data-end=\"1486\">AirTag<\/strong>, all of which achieved widespread adoption.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1532\" data-end=\"1747\"><span style=\"font-family: cairo;font-size: 14pt\">Yet, this success did not extend to <strong data-start=\"1568\" data-end=\"1579\">HomePod<\/strong>, Apple\u2019s smart speaker, which entered a fast-growing market dominated by <strong data-start=\"1653\" data-end=\"1668\">Amazon Echo<\/strong> powered by <strong data-start=\"1680\" data-end=\"1689\">Alexa<\/strong>, along with <strong data-start=\"1702\" data-end=\"1717\">Google Nest<\/strong> devices and Google Assistant.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1749\" data-end=\"1791\"><span style=\"font-family: cairo;font-size: 14pt\">HomePod: Premium Sound, Limited Appeal<\/span><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1792\" data-end=\"2025\"><span style=\"font-family: cairo;font-size: 14pt\">Apple launched the original HomePod in February 2018 at a relatively high price of <strong data-start=\"1875\" data-end=\"1883\">$349<\/strong>, later reduced to <strong data-start=\"1902\" data-end=\"1910\">$299<\/strong>. This was significantly more expensive than competing smart speakers, which typically ranged between $50 and $100.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2027\" data-end=\"2215\"><span style=\"font-family: cairo;font-size: 14pt\">While HomePod was praised for its superior sound quality, its heavy reliance on <strong data-start=\"2107\" data-end=\"2115\">Siri<\/strong>\u2014which failed to compete effectively with Alexa or Google Assistant\u2014reduced its appeal to consumers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2217\" data-end=\"2432\"><span style=\"font-family: cairo;font-size: 14pt\">By September of the same year, HomePod\u2019s market share had reached only <strong data-start=\"2288\" data-end=\"2294\">6%<\/strong>, and just <strong data-start=\"2305\" data-end=\"2334\">2% of Apple device owners<\/strong> purchased the speaker. These figures ultimately pushed Apple to discontinue the original HomePod.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"2434\" data-end=\"2479\"><span style=\"font-family: cairo;font-size: 14pt\">A Second Attempt With Limited Improvement<\/span><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2480\" data-end=\"2767\"><span style=\"font-family: cairo;font-size: 14pt\">In November 2020, Apple made another attempt with the launch of <strong data-start=\"2544\" data-end=\"2560\">HomePod mini<\/strong>, offering a smaller design at a lower price of <strong data-start=\"2608\" data-end=\"2615\">$99<\/strong>. Although it performed better commercially than the original model, it failed to significantly change the overall perception of Apple\u2019s smart speakers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2769\" data-end=\"3162\"><span style=\"font-family: cairo;font-size: 14pt\">According to data from <strong data-start=\"2792\" data-end=\"2843\">Consumers Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP)<\/strong>, Apple users continue to prefer competing smart speakers. Between September 2024 and September 2025, <strong data-start=\"2945\" data-end=\"2960\">Amazon Echo<\/strong> topped the list of most-owned smart speakers among Apple customers in the United States with a <strong data-start=\"3056\" data-end=\"3069\">35% share<\/strong>, followed by <strong data-start=\"3083\" data-end=\"3098\">Google Nest<\/strong>, while <strong data-start=\"3106\" data-end=\"3117\">HomePod<\/strong> ranked third with a share of around <strong data-start=\"3154\" data-end=\"3161\">10%<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"3164\" data-end=\"3205\"><span style=\"font-family: cairo;font-size: 14pt\">Price and Value Drive Consumer Choice<\/span><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"3206\" data-end=\"3408\"><span style=\"font-family: cairo;font-size: 14pt\">Industry observers believe that <strong data-start=\"3238\" data-end=\"3249\">pricing<\/strong> remains the decisive factor.
