French President Emmanuel Macron has commented on the kickoff of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), currently being hosted by Morocco, highlighting Africa’s deep passion for football and the excitement surrounding the tournament.
“Africa will make stadiums and our hearts tremble. To Morocco, the host nation and a great footballing country, and to all the participating teams: good luck, and may the game be the ultimate judge,” Macron said.
Hosts Morocco will open their AFCON 2025 campaign on Sunday evening with a clash against Comoros at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat. The Atlas Lions are aiming for a strong start in front of their home fans as they pursue their ambitions in a tournament being staged on home soil.
Macron’s remarks reflect the significant international interest in the Africa Cup of Nations, which brings together the continent’s top national teams in highly competitive matches, amid strong anticipation from fans in Morocco, the Arab world, and across Africa.
