WhatsApp Web Prepares to Introduce Voice and Video Call Controls

Written by Nour Abdelkader
WhatsApp is working on a new feature for its web version that will allow users to better manage voice and video call notifications, while enabling them to make and receive calls directly from their web browser with full security and privacy.
The voice and video calling feature for WhatsApp Web is still under development and has not yet been released for public or beta testing.
According to WABetaInfo, a website specialized in tracking WhatsApp updates, the upcoming calling feature will support both individual and group calls, similar to the mobile app experience.
Calls will be integrated directly into the existing chat interface, allowing users to switch seamlessly between messages and calls within the same conversation window. This update represents a major step toward making WhatsApp Web a more complete and independent platform, rather than a companion to the mobile app.
In addition, WhatsApp is developing new settings that will allow users to manage voice and video call notifications directly from WhatsApp Web. These options will appear in the web app’s settings panel, with dedicated controls for call notifications.
Once the calling feature is officially launched, call notifications will be enabled by default for all users. Incoming voice and video calls will trigger browser notifications even if the chat window is not open.
Users will have the flexibility to disable or re-enable call notifications at any time, based on their personal preferences. Importantly, notification settings on WhatsApp Web will be completely separate from those on mobile devices, meaning changes made on the web version will not affect call notification preferences on iOS or Android.
