PLO Unveils Mural Showcasing Flags of Countries Recognizing the State of Palestine

Ramallah event reflects growing international shift toward formal recognition of Palestinian statehood
Misr Mubasher – October 22, 2025
The Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) unveiled a massive mural on the façade of its headquarters in Ramallah on Wednesday, displaying the flags of countries that have officially recognized the State of Palestine.
The ceremony, organized by the Executive Committee Secretariat, was attended by committee members, diplomatic representatives, and national figures, as a gesture of gratitude to nations that have supported the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and statehood.
The mural serves as a symbolic tribute to international solidarity with Palestine at a time when Palestinian diplomacy is gaining momentum, pushing for broader recognition and renewed commitment to the two-state solution.
147 Countries Recognize Palestine
As of 2025, 147 of the 193 UN member states officially recognize the State of Palestine, including China, India, Brazil, South Africa, and Mexico, as well as the majority of countries across Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
In Europe, the year 2024 marked a major turning point, with France, Spain, Ireland, and Norway announcing official recognition.
Paris described its move as “a necessary step toward a just peace,” while Madrid led a coordinated European diplomatic effort backing recognition.
During 2025, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Portugal also joined the list — representing the largest wave of recognitions since Palestine was granted non-member observer state status at the United Nations in 2012.
A Renewed Political Message
Observers view this growing wave of recognition as a shift in global attitudes toward the Palestinian cause after years of political stagnation.
It reflects a consensus that Palestinian statehood is now a legitimate international trajectory rather than a deferred negotiation file.
The mural, now standing prominently at the PLO headquarters, carries a clear political message: it symbolizes the expanding international legitimacy of Palestine and underscores that the world increasingly views it as a matter of justice, not merely diplomacy.
